Sewing Yoked Dress Shirt for EID Super Hero (Links to pattern and tutorial included!)

Mar 12, 2010

    1. There used to be pictures here, but after Photobucket went down, I had to remove them. I don't have time to re-upload them, but that's okay... This pattern has been revised, updated, and now comes with a video tutorial for assembly! :D
You can download a printable PDF copy of the pattern here: Sewing Patterns for Ball-Jointed Dolls

And watch instructions how to sew it together here:

If you use this pattern, I do request that it be for personal use only. You're welcome to make it for yourself, but don't sell anything you've made with it. Thanks!

And if you don't like video tuts, you can also find a really old photo tutorial for the original version of the pattern here:
Sewing a dress shirt for Iplehouse EID, part one (Pattern included)

Just be aware that the photo tut doesn't show how to put the updated pattern together!

    2. :D Thanks heaps this will come in handy

    3. Thanks so much! I have a big guy on order and plan to sew for him.

    4. You put the sleeves on correctly. The lap does go in the back. :)

    5. this is amazing! Thanks so much!

    6. Does the pattern include seam allowance? :)

    7. Really? o_o The shirt my husband had tailored when he was in Japan must've been made wrong, then, because the lap is on the front in his shirt! XD

Yes, it's drawn to include a 1/4" seam allowance - I've never needed anything bigger than that unless I'm working with something like satin, which shreds up if you so much as breathe. XP
If you need a bigger seam allowance than that, or you're working with a particularly, er, 'shreddy' fabric, you'll need to cut the pieces a little bigger. ^^

    8. Thank you so much for posting this, it's just what I was after and I think I can re-size it easily! :D

    9. Oh good! I'm glad. ^^
I've been trying to figure out the resizing here as well, but I've been sick the past few days so I'm trying not to spend too much time burning my eyes out with blinding laptop light. XD
I certainly hope it works though! Mihael is so slender that width and height of each piece will have to be done individually.

    10. Thanks for posting this! This looks like just what I needed!

    11. Haha, now you made me doubt myself. Here's a picture of an (unattractive) shirt that shows the sleeve opening. It's a french cuff, but same difference. The opening/lap of the sleeve is on the outside of the arm/slightly to the back, if that makes any sense.

    12. This pattern is brilliant; I'm going to try it out and see how it fits my new SSDF boy (I've looked up some measurements and think it might be a bit big around the chest, but we'll experiment and see how it goes!). Lulu, if you do manage to get a good resizing for an SD-size, I would love for you to share! Thanks for the awesome pattern, Myuuchan!

    13. an unattractive shirt, but look at that face. mmmmmmmmmm.... lol.

    14. Thanks for the pattern, now I just need to find slacks and a blazer :)

    15. Oh I'm so excited to try this one out! I've been wanting to make my boy a mafia inspired outfit and I always find really frilly dress shirt tutorials so I'm really glad to have finally stumbled onto this one!

    16. HMMMMMM I want to use this pattern in conjunction with the slacks I just made my Model Body. <_< I should scan and post after I re draft it, so that by our powers combined, EIDs can an actual outfit! 8D

    17. Thanks for the shirt pattern! My Yato needs clothes and I've been squirreling away my husband's defunct dress shirts for just this purpose.

Regarding trousers or slacks for the EID-Super Hero body, I have a couple pairs I bought from Iplehouse, and the doll can't sit in either pair. The pants look great but they're so snug. On real people, the flesh squishes or the pantlegs ride up, but that isn't or can't happen on dolls. When I get around to making suit trousers, I want to try to give a bit more ease through the thigh so the doll can sit without disrobing. The trick will be not losing the fit through the seat or creating a zoot suit effect. :)

    18. Meldandy: I actually found a tutorial on YouTube for drafting pants from scratch. I don't know if my measurements were made of fail or not because they turned out too big, but by taking them in little by little I managed to get them just right, so now he can sit in them and not show off his butt crack too much. :D
I can link everyone to it if they want to try it out.

    19. Yes, please. Thanks!

    20. Part 1
      Part 2
      Part 3

This coupled with the awesome shirt pattern and your boy can have a night on the town!

    21. I swear I'll get a tutorial up here at some point. I'm almost done with a proper pattern for a pair of dress pants as well, they've taken a lot of trial and error but once I get a 'nice' pair made (instead of just a muslin) I'll know it's right.

In the meantime I have another project I need to finish first, but I have a few other patterns I've been working on for my big boy, are there enough people that'd be interested in seeing them for me to go through the trouble of scanning + sharing once they're finished?

    22. I'm interested to at least know what you're up to :3 I prefer "plain" so much that it's awesome to hear ideas.

    23. Runey looks good.

    24. Can anyone tell me their method of sewing the button placket and sleeve laps?

    25. How much would I need to resize this to fit a MNF A-line? (I have a formal event at LARP where my doll features as a character and he's anything but formal right now. lol)

    26. Looks awesome. Marking this for later.

    27. Anyone willing to explain how to put it together to someone who's never made this kind of shirt before?

    28. This is very very nice! I'll have to give it a try later on!

    29. This is a very clear tutorial, thank you for all the effort you put into it :)

    30. Wow! You are very crafty. Nice job. Thank you for sharing.

    31. Micheal's crafts has tiny buttons in colors and in white and black. You could also make your own out of polymer clay. It's just little circles and holes made with a needle.

    32. I've started work on removing broken Photobucket images from my posts, so it seemed like a good idea to swing by and give this thread an update, too!
I recently revised and updated this shirt pattern so it works a little better and is a little easier to sew, and I also created a video tutorial for the updated version. The old photo tutorial is still on my blog, so the link is still there--but the instructions for the sleeve plackets and collar are not the same, as those pieces have been changed some in the pattern update. All these years later, I'm finally getting around to making the rest of his suit... XD

    33. I think im gonna use this for a hawaiin shirt. Thank you so much!
