Background: Mariette calls herself the "daughter" of an alchemist who lived some time in the late 1800s. Apparently, while working on the ancient challenge of transmuting lead into gold, he unintentionally created her. At the second stage of transmutation, the "Whitening" stage, the creature that appeared to him was the Skeleton. But rather than having the transmuation proceed on to the "Green Lion" stage, the Skeleton had white flesh and skin appear on it and it seemed to come to life--like a white flame. Fascinated with this tiny figure, the alchemist sealed it in a glass sphere and set about creating a body to house it. That was Mariette's first body. He named her "Mariette" for its similarity to "marionette" and "Coppelia" for the living doll character in the ballet of the same name. He taught her all he could and used her for an assistant in his experiments. Born from the noblest family, she should have the most prestige life and family. The Cranes loved their children but her father disliked Estella as he always wanted a son but her mother gave birth to a daughter. Estella was left aside and sometimes had to toughen up act like a boy to prove her father wrong. However, things turned out worse as she found out a deep secret withnin her family. She found out her grandmother whom she loved so much wasn't human. This struck her why her parents wanted a boy so badly since the Cranes only had female children because of the strange blood in them. And the pain that she wasn't human and not being able to continue her true heritage made her depressed and almost took her own life.
