    4. Your work is amazing and your tutorial very helpful.

When you spray the msc do you spray it on the whole head, front and back?

    5. Ah, thank you, this is incredibly helpful, but I do have a question:

I know you said you 'use' the eraser on the eyebrows, but how exactly? Do you use it to 'erase' the halk into a more defined shape, or? Forgive me, but that's the only part that really confused me.

I love your face ups. Thanks so much for this tutorial. =3

    6. Thank you, I'm glad you think so :) Great question! I always only spray the front of the head (only the face). You won't be painting on the back, it only uses up more MSC than necessary.

Thank you for your inquiry! That's exactly it :) You erase all the excess chalk to reshape the eyebrows. You can use it to make a defined shape and it won't do anything to ruin your doll. It sounds strange, but you will be surprised at the results!

Thank you! Definiteley :) This way you can determine how high to put the eyeshadow etc.
Yes, once between each step. It's best to do this because that way, if you make a mistake you don't risk losing the work you wanted to keep!

Oh! No problem at all! Thank you for reading it! Hehe! For sure :) Many people don't think of even using an eraser with pastel, but it definitely works like a charm. And if you don't want such a defined shape, you can use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to blend it better ^_~

    7. eeee 8D i love the tutorial! thank you so much for making this for us~
<3 your work is amazing, i love the crease-like lines on the upper lid! thats something i cant figure out ><

    8. yay! I'm so happy that you like it ^_^ It was a great idea, I'm happy I could help :)

OMGGG I forgot to mention that, yes the creases are done by lightly creating lines with a watercolor pencil! I'm sorry that I did not include this in the photos, it's a very quick process. You start from the end of the eye and fade out towards the inner eye. I used a black watercolor pencil for this ^_^ I hope that helps!

    9. thanks a bunch, it's a very informative tutorial! what size brushes do you use? Also, when you do eyelashes, do you find it easier to do them with the head upside down or rightside up?

    10. Abolutely rocking tutorial! Just curious on two things.. Why spray in a box? Is there some benefit to this? I usually spray on a plate or some such-- so I am just curious.

Also, what brand of knife is that? It looks awesome! ^__^

    11. Thank you for your feedback! I have composed a list here and photo for your reference ^_^

      1. Size 12 semi-flat-tipped soft fiber brush (Shadowing, blush, and blending)
      2. Size 2 flat-tipped soft fiber brush (Shadowing for harsher lines)
      3. Size 000 long/thin brush (Eyelashes, eyebrow hairs, liplines)
      4. Size 5/0 short/thin brush (Eyeliner, tattoos)

As for the eyelashes, I think placing the head down and applying the upsidown is alot easier. This way you can see where you will need the glue to rest. Once they are placed, I basically move the head around every which way until I have them perfect.

Thanks a million! Sure thing! I like to spray in a box to avoid any dust particles sticking to my dolls face. When the wind blows and it's not covered by a box, you will notice much more dust and specks of dirt will stick to the MSC!
The knife is actually a 'Tooltech' exacto knife with interchangeable blade. Very heavy duty and good for modding too! I believe it's from Reno-Depot if that helps any ^_^
Thank you for the questions! I appreciate the feedback!

    12. What is a pointy eraser? What dose it mostly use on? I think I should get one...
I totally appreciate your tutorial, it's really useful.

    13. Hopefully this is alright, though it isnt my tutorial carm is a busy girl so i can answer this. A pointy eraser is basically like a pencil eraser, only one thats got more of a fine point to it. You can buy them many different ways so whichever works best for you!

You use the erase to clean up messy lines, basically, you brush on eyebrow pastels, and use the eraser to clean up and shape it better :)

    14. I can't wait to try this out!

I'm confused on how you used the Flow Aid, though. You mention putting it in a bottle lid and using it, but not if you mixed it with the paints (and how much) or if you just dipped your brush in it or what. @_@ Could you clarify please?

    15. this was just what I was looking for! :O
I've always wanted to make a faceup, but never found anything.
btw, where can we get a Mr. Super Clear Flat and the gloss?

    16. This is a really wonderful tutorial with a lot of beneficial information, including the additional comments Belladonna has made in her replies, but we try to keep the Workshop subforums easily searchable by eliminating chat that does not directly contribute to the instructional nature of the discussion. Sometimes important stuff gets brought up later in a thread but it gets lost in the squee. No questions or answers have been deleted from this thread.
If you would like to personally thank the original poster of a tutorial for their inspirational assistance, please feel free to send a PM. 8-) No one who contributes to this forum gets paid to do so, so it is important to make sure their efforts are appreciated. :)

    17. For the eyeliner, how do you get the lines so straight? Mine always end up rather squiggly....do you just have a steady hand or is there a trick to it?

Thanks so much for the tutorial!

    18. Just Beautiful. I did have a couple of questions. Im planning on getting an Elfdoll Lydia (hopefully frozenwings if not sold yet). and airbrushing her tan like you done to your previous doll which i think is a leeke. what is the difficulty of painting a doll when he/she has been airbrushed?

    19. instead on liquitex could i use daler rowney??
is there any difference in those paints?
      >.< coz theres only daler rowney in the art store i always go to....

    20. So I have one question mark. You say to seal between each step. But as far as I've understood sealing locks the colour in so to speak. So if you seal between step 5 and 6 (applying the eyebrow and using the eraser) how are you able to erase the colour?

    21. Sorry. I can't tell because I'm not the brightest bulb in the tanning bed, buuuuut are you glueing the eyelashes to the outside of the eye or inside of the eye so you can put the eye over it? Thanks :D

    22. Pretty :D
Just a quick (and pretty dumb) question - If you hold the head when you spray on the msc, is it bad to get it on your hands? Can you get it off again? :XD:

    23. Beautiful work, I am going to be getting a D.O.T. Shall, soon and i have a quick question about Flow-Aid, is there any spicific colors that you would reccomend or just basic tan colors?

again Beautiful work thank you ^_^

    24. Thank you for the tut, question though...

What about using a stencil of sorts for the eyebrows? Like um... putting a piece of masking tape down and drawing them, cutting that out then using that to do the eyebrows?... Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppME6zPeXj4
Would that work out well enough? :)

      Thanks again!

    25. Haha amazing I cant wait to try this! Talented you are! 8D
Question; I only own Liqitex Hard Body Arcylics. Would you recommend against using Hard body? Should I invest in some soft body?

    26. Hi guys! Thank you so much for all of your lovely comments, I really appreciate them and welcome any questions you may have about this tutorial! If you have a question I have not answered, feel free to send me a PM to my inbox :) The moderators deleted all of my responses to your questions, so this will be the best way to have them answered efficiently.

Mawmutt - Thank you for your input! That sounds like a great idea if you're looking to practice matching both left and right eyebrows to one another. I would only be afraid of the tape perhaps leaving a sticky residue on my dolls face? Please let us know how this turns out, it's always good to try new ideas to figure out what works best for you and your faceup style!

Gabbie in wonderlandx3 Hard body or soft body both work perfectly for faceups :) I use a good mix of the two. When you want to acheive a matte black look for eyeliner for example, hard body works best because you want the black to stay streak-free. When mixing colors, it's good to use soft-body however hard body works just as good. No need to invest in a new paint set!

    27. Thank You for the tutorial!! I was just wondering where you got your flow aid at? also, what else can you use for glossing the lips and eyes? or is it best to just use the Flow Aid?

    28. Hi! : D I'm gonna try to use your tutorial soon for my boy! I was wondering where I can find Liquitex Flow Aid? I was looking for it on Hobby Lobby, cause I wanted to get a price estimate of everything I need. XD All I could find is Galeria flow improver.

    29. Wow, thank you so much for the tutorial!!! I've been really wanting to try a faceup, but didn't know the process and what materials to use, so this was extremely helpful. I need to run out and find the supplies :) Your faceup is beautiful!

    30. A very comprehensive tutorial! In fact, the best I have come across.:D

I can't wait to put these useful tips into practice. Thank you!;)

    31. Thanks for this tutorial! I will use it when my baby comes!

    32. OMG I really really love your tutorial! I;m currently doing my friend's Kyle and whoaaa this really helps!

Thank you so so much!!! <3333

    33. mmm lovely!

    34. Thank you for this detailed post! And it's really great work. Wish I could do that

    35. Super helpful tutorial! Thank you so much!

    36. This is beyond gorgeous! I'm not so skilled at faceups myself, not even with a tutorial (my hands cramp up and end up useless), but seeing how it's done only makes me appreciate it more!

    37. Thank you ! i used this tutorial actual to practice on Monster high lol ...great tips !

    38. this is really cool, thanks...
but Im a bit confused about placing the head in a box to spray it. I though you are supposed to hold it in your hand and move it around so the spray covers the whole head evenly? So its ok to just leave it sitting in one place and spray over it?

    39. Great tutorial to bookmark. thank you:)

    40. Thank you for your face-up tutorial! What do you use to paint the eyelashes and eyebrows? Do you use a thin brush and acrylics or do you use pencils?

    41. Ah! That's an awesome tutorial!

    42. Amazing tutorail.. this will help me a lot.

    43. What do you use pen for eyeliner on? looked very thin lines :o

    44. Really lovely faceup and awesome tutorial! Super helpful!

    45. its a good thing i read this, i was planning on using oil pastels as thats what i used in school. Seeing how the chalk can be applied and blended is way easier than that of oils. Going to be keeping thisthread on my tutorial subscriptions thanks so much for the awsome post.

    46. Thank you so much for the tutorial! I'm going to need it for my first doll ;)

    47. My first doll is coming tuesday! this was made just in time!

    48. Such a lovely face up you are really talented

    49. Wonderful tutorial! I'll definitely be referencing this when my supplies get in

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    50. very nice work and tut! thanks bunches for sharing!

    51. @belladonna ... Could I ask how many coats of sealant do you use to seal the doll before using pastels? Do you spray one coat between each step? Finally could I ask about the flow aid? You mentioned putting a small amount in a container, do you then dip the brush into the flow aid? Or do you mix the acrylic colour with the flow aid until the correct consistency is achieved? Sorry if my questions seem obvious, I really have no experience of art materials and I want to get this right, heh
:D Love your face up btw...very sultry

    52. oh my, its amazing informative tutorial, one day i will definetly try to do this myself. i want to learn to do face ups my self...

    53. Although, I know it is a older video, Thank you for this tutorial, I like the step by step process as it gives me a chance to see what you have done! I am getting two dolls pretty soon that are going to be bare, and I need to fix another with a horrible job I did the first time around.
