Sanding OFF vampire teeth.

Nov 20, 2008

    1. I know it's been done, but I can't seem to find any pictures or helpful hints about sanding off vampire teeth...
Is it not that big of a deal? lol.

      so questions!

Is there a good/bad way to do it? What do you use? Is there a way to make it look like they were never there, for example: do you just blend the sanding into the lips?

Any feedback will be most helpful. Thank you!

    2. I removed my Chiwoo Elf head sleeping vampire fangs, as I wanted a sleeping elf not a vampire.

Take some fine grit sandpaper like 400 and fold a small piece rub the folded edge back and forth in the crease of the mouth. Stop every so often, rinse out the resin dust, and check your work, making sure you are taking off the teeth and not too much elsewhere. Also work on both sides at roughly the same time to avoid things becoming uneven. It takes like forever...

Since it takes the surrounding lip off with it, the mouth will look slightly more open than it was originally. Luts fangs are actually sunk kind of into the lower lip, like the doll is bitting its lower lip with its fangs -ouch-, so there is no way to avoid bringing down the level of the lip.

There's probably an easier way if you have access to a dremel or other automatic tool.

    3. I would advise against using a dremel, it will go to fast and you have little control over it.

    4. will it affect the faceup?
like, noticeably, i can deal with it if you can not really tell, but if it is going to be extremely noticeable, i need to know so i can buy some proper gloss...

    5. You can't remove part of a doll's mouth without messing up the faceup.

    6. yea, i figured that.
but would it be terribly hard to fix?

    7. You'd at very least have to remove all the painting on the lips and redo those. But een then, often times remoing just a part of the faceup can adversly effect the blushing around the cheeks and such which can be very difficult to fix. So generally if you're going to mod, it's best and easier t remove the entire faceup.

As to removing teeth, I did do this for a friend once. You can also use an exacto knife to very carefully shave away the main portion of the teeth, and then go back with sandpaper and smooth it down as Lyrajean described above. That can speed it up a little, but you'll still want to go slow to make sure the blade won't slip and accidentally scratch other areas of the mouth.

    8. You can also try to fill in the indents where teh fans where with Apoxy so that it would look closer to how the lip would look like without the fangs.

    9. This would be my reccomendation. depending on which vampire sculpt it is. the fangs can be almost punched in to the lip. so that is a pretty easy fill with apoxie. and then can be repainted over.

    10. This is very helpful. I wish there was a picture tutorial for those of us who aren't fully assured by directions or have self-doubt in their abilities.

I'm saving up for an AOD Chi, but I'm not too fond of the vampire fangs. I was considering sanding them off, so this thread is just what I was looking for.

    11. I want to remove the fangs on a DZ Leo, but he's so small! A tutorial would be fantastic!

    12. I did it. I wanted a little mischief fae, not a little demon! I used a jeweler's file, the triangular sort.

    13. Can you cut some of the fang away with an exacto knife or something before you begin to sand? Or is there risk for chipping if you do that?

    14. I just did my first modding project on a Vamp Lu-Wen. I tried sanding off the teeth with fine grit sandpaper and an exacto as well, but while I could get rid of the actual tooth in the mouth, since Luts has their teeth slightly sunken into the lip (which I think makes them the best looking teeth ever, but the hardest to work with) it just looked slightly odd.

So I went to my father and he filled the small places with something that was rather terrifying for me, since it was BLUE. I'm assuming it's a sort of apoxy or bondo, though he didn't tell me. It filled wonderfully though, and after it was very easy to sand it down and reshape the lip with it.

      >< I'm only worried about the fact it's blue. I'm about to paint it now, and I think it will cover over okay ;; I'll update after painting.

SO for Luts I would recommend filling it in.

    15. I know its a really small mod, but the tooth is a bit around the corner of his mouth and im a bit worried about damage to the lip or interior of the mouth while sanding.

      Any tips?

    16. Reviving this thread! Any success stories about removing vampire teeth in the past 4 years?

    17. I’d be interested in seeing if anyone removed those awful buck teeth from Realpuki Obi.

    18. @MayBea I remember seeing someone in the realpuki thread sharing pictures. I don’t like them either!
