Story: Madeleine was actually killed by her sister about 300 years ago. Everyone including her husband (Sebastian) thought she was dead, but what they didn't know (nor did Madeleine) was that she was actually put into a sleep for 300 years.
When she awoke in present day France in a casket, she freaked out, but was saved by a nearby old friend (who's now a vampire) who dug her up from her grave. Sebastian was in American when this happened, and was called back to France to retrieve her. Madeleine was very shocked to learn what had happened to her, and also shocked to find out that her husband is now a vampire.
Madeleine came back to America to live with Sebastian. She loves her husband no matter he is, but she's still a human, even if she technically might be over 300years old. As of now, Madeleine is content, but we'll see what happens with her.

The Second Life is a person's second chance after they died. Esme died giving birth to a third child. In her previous life, she married a soldier coming home from WWII. Accordingly, they had kids and began a life of normalacy, complete with church socials and making sure her family had a clean house, warm meals, and an adoring wife/mother.
She hated every moment of it. She didn't truly love her husband and she felt awkward with the kids. But she had a flawless mask on and appeared happy to everyone.
When she died giving birth to a third child, Esme found herself along with the other residents of the Second Life. Feeling freedom for the first time since she was a child, she threw away her mask and is now doing everything she had ever wanted.
