Resin head on Obitsu vinyl body?

Oct 20, 2004

    1. I have two spare Super Dollfie-type heads and am wondering about buying Obitsu 60cm bodies for them.

Has anyone tried this and if so, how successful was it?

And how do you get the SD-type head to stay on the Obitsu neck?

      Thanks

      Jessica

    2. I don't know, but I have my SD head (well, SD13, but...) on a DD body, and it works fine (DD's have an S-hook, too). She's quite happy with the arrangement. And, the DD are actually less expensive (as long as you get them from a supplier, rather than on the scondary market - there, the prices are REALLY varied) than the 60 cm Obitsu...but, the Obitsu also have REALLY good poseability...maybe you could do one of each? So your girls would be different?

    3. 60cm Obitsu's are not strung, do not have an S-hook and thusly have no way of supporting the weight of an SD resin head. :(

You can try to use putty to stop up the neckhole, but the head will still always hang down. At least, that's what happened with mine.

If you can find a way to do it, please let me know!

    4. Thank you both!

      That is very interesting :)

The only problem is that I am not sure where to buy a Dollfie Dream. The ones at Domuya seemed quite expensive - at least in my present state! ;)

I was wondering about the Obitsu head arrangement...I thought the head looked like a stalk rather than a link.

Maybe one could somehow attach or insert an s-hook into the neck-stalk. I wonder?

      :)

    5. I guess what exercises me now is whether I should go for a 60cm Obitsu body or a Dollfie Dream body.

I'm tempted by the Dollfie Dream body because of the s-hook in the neck and the fact that I can order direct from Volks.

I think if I want an Obitsu body I'll have to go for the secondary market or eBay.

I'll probably go with the "one of each" option...then I can buy them in succession.

    6. Wow, they've gotten rid of that horrid belly joint on the obitsu with, what I am assuming is, the new body. Cool! And I didn't know they came in two different colors. hehe

Thanks for the Obitsu link. :)

    7. But can you order direct from the Obitsu site? It seems to be directed mainly at the Japanese market...

    8. Pardon my chiming in!
i was very close to doing this and did some research.
Ii would suggest, for the Obitsu, cutting a foam Disk with a hole in the middle kind of like a "gromet",then out of a softer "tupperware" like plastic (allmost like a margerine or yogurt container lid),cutting a disk shape with a hole in the middle a tad smaller than the neck tip.
Put the head on the neck, then the foam gromet, then push on the plastic disk onto the neck until it "snaps" into the neck groove. It should hold it down nicely and give it some posability! The foam should prevent flopping too.

Hope this sounds like a good plan if you go with an Obitsu!

    9. Thank you - that sounds like a really good idea! I'll have to print this out :)

I've just been trolling through the archives looking at various Dollfie Dream posts. In some ways, the Obitsu body appeals more because of its posability. I guess the tricky thing is getting hold of one (wanders off to the Marketplace)

    10. hey Jessica :) I've got an Obitsu body and a DD body and I've got SD heads on them both. I love the poseability of the Obitsu body (including the nice rotation of the head). I use a rubber band. It works perfectly! I prefer the Obitsu body to the DD body, it seems more substantial. The DD body is a nice shape until you handle it, then to me it feels like a toy.

      :daisy :daisy :daisy

    11. Oh helpful Jesse! :)

I hoped you might pop up.

Am currently involved in a small dither (but a happy wun) about whether to get a DD bod or an Obitsu^^

The main problem with the Obitsu bods is getting hold of 'em. But there is one on Y!J for 17,500 Yen buy it now.

Except then there's Masamichi-fees and stuff on top.

      Mmmble.

:daisy :daisy :daisy  PS how do you use the rubber band? Enquiring minds wish to know...:D

    12. I'm getting a DD soon... and I plan to put the DE Soo head on her. But I'd like to know what else is out there? What other heads fit and what do they look like on the body? I'm going to post a request in the gallery... but if you see this and post it here that's cool. XB I'm just really really curious now.

    13. Maybe we should all post pictures of the results when we've got our SD-type heads on Obtisu/DD bodies...

It might not be a bad idea to start a thread in the Gallery, Batchix! There's some interesting stuff, including pictures, if you fossick around in the archives a bit. But I don't think I saw any "alien" heads on Obitsu/DD bodies.

I know Jesse has two (see above) and there was one on Karin Bussman's site http://www.krbussman.com/Misc/boycomparisonshots.html

    14. *waves from nottingham*

the one with out that belly joint is a newer style but the floppy 3 part is still for sale.

I own both an obitsu and DD
the obitsu is broken right now ((i was careles and snapped her hip joint)it's that 3 part waist jointed style i'd advise that you get the 2 part one). But she does pose very well

http://www.obitsu.co.jp/eng/obitsubody/fr_shop.html english shop for you (or ask domuya, hobby link http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljpage.cgi?OBT60727 have the 3 part in)
I love both types but obitsu 3 part has a habbit of going floppy at the waist (srews work lose just so you know)

    15. Hi
I ordered directly from Obitsu...just go to the site, go to their e-mail and tell them the item numbers of the bodies you'd like...they responded quickly and I got my stuff in 4 days...
      Good luck!!
      Steph C.

    16. Eeeeeeee! Useful linkies! O.O

I've just bought one from someone on DoA (fingers crossed) :)

I think it probably has the 3-part waist joint. I'm quite excited about the prospect of something very posable :)

    17. Oh brill! I've got a bod coming from someone on the forum...but I'll probably need another one!

      :daisy

    18. they do pose very well but are not stringed so no S hook, you could put a resin head on i guess if you played about with the neck post

    19. If I rem correctly, the CP and F-08 heads will fit onto this body quite well, you can just add an S-Hook. But not by stringing, but by hooking it to the post in the obitsu neck, just so that it prevents the head from comming off... I guess anything that just "stoppers" up the hole in the head (neck area) will do.

Sorry if you don't understand, but bottom line is yes obitsu bodies can take other heads, I wanted to get one for my F-08 coz of poseability, but I dig the curvy, more defined body of the DD more.

      Hope that helps

    20. Hi, I have a question..is it possible to put a resin head on the 60cm obitsu body? If so, how would I go about that? I know a number of folks have put resin heads on the Dollfie Dream body, but I'm not sure how they did it. I have a Volks SD13 head that I'm thinking of putting on an Obitsu body, but not sure how, or if I even can. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Melody

    21. I've heard about using the bottle cap method to help keep it on.

    22. ... Well, since I have Shin in peices...... *takes a couple of pics*

Okay, here's the Obitsu optional male chestpiece (same neck size as regular default girl obitsu chests) next to one from customhouse. The Obitsu neck is REALLY skinny, and the vinyl is also very thin. The head in the background is a Lovelyhouse ShinCho, which is on the smaller side when it comes to SD heads.

The head looks ok on the body from head on, though the neck looks a little thin...

But looking from the side it's VERY obviously rickety, with the neck too small. It would be very hard to make this head tilt up or down because of this.

      And an underneath shot.

If you were -really- desperate for it, you could try making the neck opening in the head smaller using apoxie sculpt, but even then I think you'd have a very small range of movement with it.

    23. Freya is on an Obitsu60 body. The neck post is quite a bit too small and I padded it with rubber bands for lack of anything else to use :\

    24. I have Luke's (K-Doll Kian) head on an Obitsu body right now. With just a strong rubber band to attach his head it is too loose - but is doable for now as long as I'm carefull about how I pose him. I am still searching for a way to pad the neck. I'm going to be working on an experiment involving a felt pad stuffed in the back of his head and I'll let you know how that goes.

However, if you havent actually purchased an Obitsu body yet - I don't recommend it. It is awkward and the legs are extremely long. It is difficult to pose. And the feet are as small as those of an old-fashioned Chinese princess. For me it was a better choice that having Luke sitting on a glue bottle for over year (I had to put a sudden freeze to doll purchases and only had 150 dollars saved towards a body) but if you have other options - go with something else.

    25. Need 101 on this little project. I have a Notdoll head that I want to put on an Obitsu body and have no idea what the trick is and tools to use. Any pointers, details, or general don'ts would be great!

Thanks from Imogene as she wants to be whole.

*Well, I think I figured it out by some comments made about DD bodies and resin heads from earlier on. Wish I could see pictures though. Any hoo, sorry for being redundant!

    26. I do want the white obitsu body right? Planning, I am planning and want to make sure i get the right one. :)

    27. Right, the pale white body. It's a really good match!

    28. thanks you're majesty!!! ;)

    29. Hello--

For Christmas my mother got me a very lovely DIM Belita head (totally awesome):whee: accompanied by what I think is an Obitsu body (...) :doh

The point at the neck which attaches to a head has a flat tab-like protrusion (which I assume is where a typical Obitsu head would fit). That tab fits loosely into the slit on the underside of Belita's head, so -- if I decided to swing her about, turn her upside down, or possibly even while trying unsuccessfully to adjust her, her head would tumble off into oblivion. :( For the moment, what is temporarily holding her head in place is a pat of eye putty.

I don't have the money to buy her a proper body, so I was hoping that someone/people could give me a bit of advice on how to attach her head.

      Thank you~~~ :arainclou

    30. Hey no worries!! You can attach a resin head to an Obitsu body..I have two of them..a modded Soony and a 05 Juri..

did the body come with a head?? it should be non eyehole and anime looking....if so that head will have to come off..which is a pain but can be done...if it has one let me know...

if not..you can use a strong rubber band to put the Belita head on..you will also need a Luts neck piece or you can take a plastic soda cap..cut the edge off and use the flat top with a hole drilled in the middle...or at least a slice to fit it around the neck tab..
but here is a pic of mine with the rubber band and luts neck piece..

hope this helps you some, it is hard to explain in writing..

    31. THANK YOU!!!! :dance

    32. wow thats cool i might try it myself as i have a head and no body :) thats a big help

    33. I find that you need a pretty strong rubber band..and one that not too long...the head cap may be a bit wobbly but it will stay on and its real easy to change the eyes!!:D

But I have to add that with the new Luts neck holes, it will work but there will be a gap {well with the Nanuri head there is one} and you may have to sand down those ledges they put inside the new heads for the neck mechanism...they are a pain and make the neck piece wobbly..why did they have to mess with some that worked? :?

    34. Obitsu bodies, while not being resin, do have some distinct advantages. They pose very, very well, being one of the best. When one is trying to purchase and is on a limited budget, they're a good deal less expensive than resin bodies. They are modifiable to fit most other company's heads, with a little ingenuity. They have magnet feet, and often even without this, stand very well on their own. So don't worry; you didn't get a lemon! I think you'll be fairly happily surprised when she's all complete! (pssst...and Junky Spot is a great place!!) shhhh!

    35. I would like to put resin heads on Obitsu bodies, has anyone done that lately?

    36. Try using the search engine~ It's been done, but the neck is a little thin and the colors don't always match.

    37. Thanks, my connection has been dicey and the search engine was not always working today because of it. Once things smoothed out, I got a good search return. ::nods:: looks do-able, and body blushing might well cover a multitude of sins.

    38. My girl Ellie is a resin head (CP Luts) on a DD1 body.

I bought the 'neck part' from Luts with a previous order, then never used it, but it came in super-hand to fit her head onto the DD1 body using an S-hook.

Not sure exactly how you'd replicate that on an Obitsu body, as they aren't internally strung, but I'll ask my friend Arkady, as I'm pretty certain she has a resin/Obitsu hybrid...

    39. I found a simple hookup fix here once the search engine started working again. Just a heavy rubber band hooked around the T-connector in the neck, and into the loop of the headcap, plus (possibly) a stopper to fill the neck-hole a bit so the T-connector works. Easy-peasy! Even came with photo instructions.

I really like the idea of doing a hybrid because I am terrified of how fragile the little resin fingers are.

    40. Depends on the resin head; Obitsu whiteskin is a good match for Luts normal skin, for instance - also RML and SoulDoll normal skin.

To attach a resin head to an Obitsu body, I found the best thing to do was to drill a hole through the hard plastic neck tab and double a thick hair elastic through it, then loop this over the resin hook in the headcap (in the case of RML heads), or hook an S hook through the elastic and then attach the headcap in the normal way.

Depending on the resin head in question, sometimes it's possible to just hook one end through the drilled hole in the neck tab and hook the other end of the S hook through the hoop on the iside of the headcap - the Obitsu neck tab is on a spring inside the neck and there can be quite a bit of play sometimes, depending on the size of the spring.

      Hope that helps!

    41. It does, and thank you!

I have two heads on order from iplehouse, and a whiteskin Obitsu (my little Muse, who WILL get her faceup as soon as my company is gone) to compare them to. If I don't like the match, I can save up for resin bodies later...or it is possible that since both my twins are not the sort to show a lot of skin, it won't matter.

    42. Hi Victoria!

Welcome to the wild world of BJDs. :)

In the past, I had my Luts Lishe head on an Obitsu body:

      http://www.eveshka.org/dollfie/hybridlishe.html

That's a whiteskin Obitsu with an older beauty white Lishe, and while not a perfect match, it does work. (You'd probably want to use a bottlecap or something to add a bit to the neck for length.)

This is a normal skin Luts Lishe with a white Obitsu... not a good match at all. (And a rather surprising upskirt of my poor Kumiko, to boot!)

      I hope that helps!

    43. I have a Dollzone NS head on an Obitsu BW body. Its a really close match. It has to be a girl head to work thought because DZ the boy heads are just too big.

    44. I have a Doll-Zone Xi on a Bobobi boy body. I like hybrids if you can make them look right.

    45. This is great, thank you all!

    46. I have a Volks SD13 Megu head on a white skined Obistu body--the head fits excellently on the neck and looks good with the body. The color is a bit off--the darkness/lightness of the colors are very similar, but the head is slightly more yellow while the body runs a little more to the pink side. I'm very happy with the combination overall, though : )

    47. I have a white skinned Obitsu with s DIM Rain head. it was a match.hope this helps.

    48. Does anyone have a link to a tutorial? i've looked around a bit but i might be just missing it!!

If not, I'll have to resign myself to saving up for a dollmore body, and painting the obitsu head, or trying at least! :)

    49. If you get the head on, please post pics! I'm thinking of doing the same thing.

    50. can u put an elfdoll head on an obitsu body and if so is there a guide? thanks
