Personality: Kenzo is a little serious at times, brooding, and also conflicted. He's not totally evil, but not totally good either. More, 'Chaotic-good' you could say. He's determined, feisty, tricky, charismatic, and bold. He’s also sometimes sarcastic, and a bit of a jerk when he wants to be. He has no problem with killing insolents when the time calls for it, and even takes pride in these killings. However, he has quite a naïve side he doesn’t like to show. He can get pretty frightened if something/someone challenges him past his capability, but he’ll always try his hardest to combat it. He’s very into what he does, so if someone gets in his way, even someone he loves, he’ll remove them but most likely with some regret afterwards. He is also very forgiving to those who deserve it, and puts his trust into people easily. Kenzo is into the earth's elements and feels very attatched to the spirit world; a gift that came from his native mother.
History: Deep inside the realm of darkness there lies a desert wasteland. This desert is the one place inside the realm where the sun sets in the sky. The rest of the realm remains cold and dark, without any sunlight to fall upon the streets or the dark alleys and districts.
The desert acts as sort of a ‘no mans land’ where only those born within the dunes are able to live. No one from the dark district is able to step foot into the scorching hot desert without dying because they have never been in contact with the sun before. There is a vast wall separating the desert from the dark streets of the realm in order to protect its citizens. Along the wall there are merchants and traders of all sorts, doing business with one another in order to get things that cannot be acquired from either side.
Kenzo’s mother was a merchant at the barrier wall from the desert and happened to fall for a mysterious pale man from the other side. She was very dark skinned and exotic; the complete opposite from the man. There are only a handful of ways for a citizen of the dark realm to cross the wall into the desert, as it has been declared ‘forbidden’ to do so by the king, because the result is obviously death. Kenzo’s mother was able to sneak over the wall to visit the man because she chanced upon a portal in the dunes which lead her to the other side. Together the two of them conceived Kenzo, but were quickly separated.
Ken grew up with his mother until the age of 10 when a band of gypsies raided his mother’s camp tents and stole him away from her because of his mysterious beauty and mixed skin. (He was paler than usual for a sand dweller because of his father). The gypsies figured they could make a pretty penny on him if they traded him off as a slave.
Sure enough, he was bought by the notorious Captain of the Sand Pirates. He thought Kenzo would make a good addition to his crew and could be their cabin boy.
As Kenzo grew up, the Captain grew more and more fond of him and changed his rank from cabin-boy to official crew member. He taught Kenzo to be an excellent swordsman and he quickly became the best their ship ever had.

Now their ship sails along the sands in hopes of finding the mysterious portals that are known to pop up at random. It is said that they often lead sailors to worlds with immense riches or sometimes empty realms of death.
