Show us wigs that you modified / cut into different styles!

I'vew done this several times. XD Once was just a quick bang trim so it wouldn't hide the face so much, the other two involved a lot more hacking but I was rather pleased with the results! If you're just nervous about cutting up a wig, that's understandable. maybe you could try finding some cheap/used ones somewhere to practice with..?

In any case, some examples:

This is a Cancan 28a wig. I'd bought it mostly because of the navy color though the style wasn't quite what I wanted. The tail got totally chopped off and shortened all around. Except it still had bangs which I couldn't exactly get rid of easily.



Buuut, that's why I bought this wig! XD This is an Acquire Sharon wig which again, I mostly just shortened a LOT! (They're longer than they appear in the photos!) One of the reasons I really liek Acquire wigs too is because they come in styles and a wide variety of colors so that you can do a lot of customizing to them if you need a style that's not easily found. ^^

In any case, I'm really glad I chopped up a few wigs as it's similar to the reason I always cut my own hair myself- Cause you can make it look exactly how you want! XD It does mean a little more trouble, but I think it's worth it to get the look you really want for your doll. ^^

i used to be scared of it as well, but since i cut most of my friends hair i figured it couldnt be any harder.

and it wasnt, :grin: this used to be a sholder length wig. i took about 2 inches off the end and then put a lil hair glue in it to hold the style.

 

Yep It washes right out with a little warm water, believe it or not "hairstyling glue" is a real product for human hair, the brand i use is called Ice its way stronger than gel and after its dry it doesnt get crumbly the way gel tends to especially on synthetic hair , and on doll and human hair lets you get really pointy tips ect,..its how i get the ends of my hair even thought its long to stay pointy (see my icon). yes thats my real hair, lol

A little bit of the stuff goes a loooong way, the less you use the better it sems to hold :grin:

 

Magnolean in a cute up do... this is a default Kira wig, by the way. I just used bobby pins, but I like it a lot.


Here's the long black wig from Doll Heart, which I cut up into a cute bob ^_^ It's not perfect, but I have wig cutting tips. Pin the top layer of hair up and cut the under layer of hair first. You should be able to get it even if you cut a thin amount of hair at a time. If you hack through a huge chunk of hair it's more likely to go out of control.

 

This is a mystery junk wig that was included with my first Super Dollfie - the previous owner did a bit of an angle cut on it:

This is monique "trix" which was cut by a professional hairstylist. This pic doesn't show it very well, but she cut it in a shag, it's awesome. It started out as a very long straight wig with bangs.

This one was a knee length centerpart Posh dolls wig that I pulld sideways for a side part and cut to just below shoulder length.


This next one is a Monique, Bebe wig that I straigtened and cut into this very simple boy cut.

I pulled my MSD Magie's default wig into a ponytail:



All I did was take a comb and throw it in a rubber band -- after wrestling with normal wigs for years, doing this to a little doll wig was easy! The only hard part was keeping the wig on her head while I pulled it up. I use the rubber band method, not the velcro method, to keep the wig on, so maybe that's why I had trouble.

 

Kstarr pink and white mix that I pulled up with little plastic clippies and a bra strap for a headband. I style this one A LOT

boil permed by Batchix as an experiment, didn't turn out how she wanted so I added bangs, and some whisps and pulled it up into pigtails.

Batchix and I actually cut this wig with thinning scissors and such to get it in this style. I think its the Aquire Anya.
we did the same with a black wig, but I don't have any good shots of that

This was a normal Leekeworld L-021, though I've cut bangs into it and trimmed a tiny bit around his face. It clips up quite nicely:

We get cute pigtails as well:



(Of course, the easiest way to style it is to stick a few little clips into it to give it a bit more of a feathered shape, like this)



It also has three long purple and grey mullet-braids added to it at the back via extensions ^^

 

This was originally the default AR LF Ren wig. ^^;; I actually cut it for Youzen to cosplay Akira from Samurai Deeper Kyo. (But the costume's not done yet... heheh.)






Acquire Anya wig. I just braided up so that his face wouldn't be completely obscured.


r19 from Reve en Poupee. Cut the bangs unevenly on purpose. ^^;; (But er... it turned out a bit too uneven.)

 

Here is Momiji's wig, an old Luts KDW-04 wig.
First I have braided his hair, 8 braids, one for each tiny bell. then I have glued the bottom of the braids to be sure they won't untie, laced up with a colored thread, added a bell and after all that I cut the hair (the hair cut is not perfect, but I like the messy way it looks)

This was Hayden's wig before, but I gave it bangs and thinned it out a bit, then trimmed it at the back and styled it a bit and and.. *sigh*

 

Wow, everyone's really talented when it comes to styling wigs. Luckily, the wig I cut didn't need such style and precision. Poor ragdollie...

Sliver's wig used to be an Acquire Sharon wig. I chopped it into this:

 

I've done little mods/trims on most of my wigs, but the biggest change was to Shibu's. I started with this wig in dark carrot, and ended with this:

 

Wow.....The wigs are awesome and salute those who dare to chop their wigs!~ (Was darn freaked out at first try).....

Anyways, I chopped and styled this wig into this:

 

I'm not very good at cutting hair/wigs, but here's one of Ciel's wigs that I cut. It was just a bit too long for my taste.

I had an extra foofy mohair wig laying around and Aacheron needed a change of pace. This was the result, after chopping most of it off, sewing in some white bits, and putting enough goo in it to get to to stay like this:

 

I'm planing to cut it more.

 

Shuro's wig used to be the U default wig, it's cut to look like this: ^^

P.S. I wanted to see them cause I just got a Leeke Wig and I had to trim the bangs cause they totally covered my girl's eyes. O_O

 

I've actually trimmed the bangs of both Eskar and Aedon's wigs, just so I could see their eyes better. XD It's not really noticeable on Aedon's wig, but here's a couple shots of Eskar's:

 

I don't have a before and after shot, but I cut this leeke wig because it was huge on Ophelia's head.


I've tidied it up since then. The long parts next to the bangs is actually how long they originally were before I cut them.

 

I had this really ratty wig that came with my doll second-hand. It was waist lenght with LOTS of curls. For the bangs, there were six, tight ringlet curls (Not cute curls-BAAD curls) So, after cutting the wig up, I brushed the front curls out and pulled them over as side bangs ^-^ It serves it's purpose as a crazy poofy wig!

The wig is just cut really short, then I wet it and put regular mousse in it. =D

This is a butchered and one-year-styled Iplehouse gold-brown mohair in small size.

Mou, the issue is, what type of hair you aim to have? Spikey fur wigs has lots of defination; samples of short spikes like sailorsaturn's or long spikes like Deathfire and large spikes like mine. It would help too to know your arriving doll's size too, as some fur wigs LOOKS good on SDs but NOT on MSDs. I went through lots of that problem.........................

I make fur wigs in my spare time so I tend to have a lot of fun with them..

Most fun I've ever had with a wig:


This wig doesn't need much styling to be insane...

I could find more if I looked around, but those were the most amusing off the bat. I find fur is really easy to style, you just need to learn how to 'finger' it in place. Also, products designed for doll wigs are great to help style it. I use Volks' Mist to style my wigs, if they need it.. though most of the fur I have is generally pretty nice and doesn't need it. The mist just helps if I want something really specific, or if I want a slightly 'wet' look.

 

Originally a DW-104, which is more or less knee-lenght. I cut it to mid-back ^^

 

A leeke wig that had one of those ringlets sitting horizontally on the front like a giant puff thing. I restyled it so that the curls were part of the front two curls:


A long blonde wig that wasn't working at all for my dolls, till nek did an awesome job at cutting it up for me:



And a long monique wig, which I find really easy to just put up in different styles:

It started out as a straight wig; I cut bangs into it, used a hairdryer to flatten them out again (if you look at prior photos of him, his bangs are flying out from his head), and have been sewing in additional wefts of silver and dark brown. Once I finish adding the new wefts, I'll cut the bangs again, shape the back of it, and train it down again.

I'll also be doing something similar to another one of my dolls' wigs, and the last one will be trimmed and trained too.

 

I only just recently started to cut, boil and tweak my own wigs and will do so from now on, here are a few but they are not Goth :

I made Clover's crazy little mop-top from an old, furry hat I found in a thrift store.

 

I've started sewing my own wigs as I couldn't find what I wanted on the internet

feather wigs and fiber wigs (I'm pretty bad at sewing furwigs ^^; )

Neon Orange wig (the fiber one) is the first wig I sewed, I'll sew another one and try to style it later. There's many mistakes on it like the top which isn't good but I like it.

My mom just cut and trimed Emilio's wig. It's a CanCan wig.


I may trim it a little more.

 

I cut up Larue's wig, originally a black mohair wig w/tail:

This wig was originally blonde but I custom dyed it. Never going to find that shade of teal in any wig brand!


This wig was originally past the waist, but I chopped it short. My first wig modification, and still the one that gets worn the most, heh.

 

Don't know if this counts, but I customized this fur wig to fit my boy's tiny head (I think it was made for a 9 inch head at least, while my Latidoll K's head is around 8 inches), and then layered the back and sides to be much shorter before styling it up.
