Theme Dolls/costumes based on the Sandman books! - Cosplay

Jan 24, 2007

    1. Do you have a doll who you've based on a character from the Sandman books? Or a doll who's cosplayed as one of the Endless or other characters from the books? If so, I want to see them!

Please post pics of your Destinies, Deaths, Dreams, Destructions, Desires, Despairs and Deliriums! Also your Corinthians, Luciens, Nualas, Cluricans, Wandas, Roses... need I go on? If you saw it in a Sandman book, post pics here! :)

    3. I've been neglecting my dolls as of late so this is actually an old thread from December ^ ^;; His current flat mate is John Constantine, I need to get pictures of him too. So far John and Corinthian are my only comic-based dolls, and since both are Vertigo I figured this was the best thread to mention them XD

      I swear I'll get around to properly photoshooting them ;-;

    5. Here is the beginnings of my doll Delirium. I did the face and wig today, I just need to do the clothes. Hope you love her as much as I do !

    6. ooh I don't know if my boy really belongs here > >; but his character is based off of the Sandman graphic novels :3 BE is one of Morpheus' children and he creates nightmares

sorry if he doesn't really fit since he's a "spin off" character ^_^; I'm hoping to get one of his brothers home soon and a little down the line I'd like to get Dream too <3

    7. He finally has eyes the proper colour so I am posting a pic of him!

He's a Bishonen House Ver. 2.0 with custom faceup by Donn. His eyes are from Enchanted Doll.

    8. zomg give me moooooooooooore!!!! I got into The Sandamn like....7 months ago and I've been waiting to see this! As it turns out Donn here on DOA, the creator of Bishonen house has made a dream doll for Neil Gaiman himself!!

    9. Thanks Micà! I am pretty happy with him. :)

Actually, the Dream doll is mine - I commissioned him from Donn and you can see him in this thread a little further up (though my photos of him suck compared to Donn's). With Donn's permission I sent the approval photos that Donn took of the doll before sending it to me to Neil Gaiman, who posted them on his blog because he was so impressed by Donn's work. ;)

    10. Here's my Reaiah cosplaying as Li'l Dream. Out of the three tools Morpheus originally had in the novels, the only thing I was able to snag for the photoshoot was a small pouch ^^':

    11. No problemo! :)

And here's one more pic I experimented around with Photoshop to get the "dream sand" effect (though it turned out to be more of a "fairy dust" effect for me ):

More piccies of Reaiah's Dream cosplay can be found here. :aheartbea

    12. Here's a couple of pics of my Death (Feeple Nanuri on Dollstown elf body)

    13. Blackpaperbag, your Death is awesome! Very pretty. :)

And here is my newest doll, another Death!

      Take my hand...

    14. What type is she?

    15. She's a WS D.I.M. Minimee of Death which a bunch of us did a group order on. Her body is a PaleSkin Dollstown 15Girl body. The Minimee resin was a bit whiter than the Dollstown so I had to blush her head to match. Thanks for asking!

    16. Fate here wasn't actually intended to be Death - but ended up looking a hell of a lot like her anyway. Eye markings are different, obviously. She's a Unoa wink head on a MNF body.

    17. wow, these are all amazing!
this is so cool, I wouldn't have expected Sandman cosplays...

and Chibi Kitsune- is that Amanda Palmer with Neil Gaiman?
I love her <3 and Neil Gaiman xD

    18. Yep, they were holding a joint signing for the I Killed Amanda Palmer book in Dublin, my brother and I waited more than four hours, but it was so worth it! I love them both too X3

    19. This is really neat! I love seeing how the characters are being interpreted!

I was just having a little fun dressing up my IM Hound as Dream. (completely inspired by the last image of him in Dream Hunters.) :)

    20. E. being Dream alike.
Wasn't my intention to cosplay though, this shot came out 'accidentally let's say.

    21. My dolls kind of accidentally ended up looking like Delirium and Death. XD I didn't notice until somebody in one of my art classes pointed it out to me.

    22. I am a HUGE Neil Gaiman fan (I even got to meet him this past October! He was super nice :D), and my ultimate dream doll collection would be all seven of the Endless in doll form.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endless_%28comics%29

Dream would have to be a Hound, because he's so tall and lanky, and has the gaunt face. Or maybe an Iplehouse guy.

For Delerium I'd want an MSD (or maybe 50cm, but those are harder to come by). Either Souldoll Mayu (http://souldoll.com/shop/step1.php?number=1299), Souldoll Tiny (http://souldoll.com/shop/step1.php?number=1295), or bobobie Mei (http://www.bobobie.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=164).

Despair will be the hardest, nobody makes short fat dolls :(

Anyone have suggestions for the other characters? ANd in general, has anyone done a project like this, with characters from a favorite story? I"d love to see!

    23. Iplehouse guys might fit Destruction better than Dream. I would say Dollshe does a nice tall and lanky look for Dream or Destiny, and there are several companies that offer that size+build of dolls too, like Dollmore, Dollzone, etc. As for Despair, I haven't seen a short fat doll, but I have seen one fat doll body somewhere on this forum. It starts with an 'S' and is an artist sculpt. You can try checking it out.

    24. I remember seeing that "plus size' Doll somewhere...Though I think she was 60cm and thus too tall for Despair..but maybe if I modded sorter legs onto the body? Despair is kind of out of proportion anyway XD

    25. Oh wow - I would LOVE to see these when they happen! I also really like the Sandman series - I used to have a pet Boa Constrictor named "Morpheus" - but people never got the reference - they thought he was named after a character from The Matrix movie ...

Anyways - Back to the topic!

For Delerium, I think Souldoll's Tiny has the best face out of your 3 choices, but if you are leaning towards Mayu, you might also want to look at Unoa Sist & Lusis - they have very similar faces.

For Dream, I think it would have to be a Dollshe guy - Iplehouse guys are too broad and buff looking. My vote would be for a Dollshe Rosen - either the open-eyed or dream-eyed head.

What about Death? Hmmmm... I think there are a lot of sculpts out there that could work, so long as you found the right wig and did a good job on her curly-cue eye decoration... Here's a link to another person's version of Death: At Deaths Door (sandman) (rs mei) And here's another: Introducing Death from The Sandman [FL Feeple Nanuri/Dollstown elf hybrid] *one-shot

As for Despair, that's a really tough one. I know that TinyBear made these "fat fairies" - the faces wouldn't be right, but there the best thing I can think of for bodies. They're pretty tiny, though... Here's a link to the Database for them - there's lots of photos: Fat Fairy Fan Club - Tinybear BonBon & Coco
I'm not sure if they are still being made, but I have seen a couple come up for sale here on Marketplace...

As for me, I'm currently working on creating my own versions of "Louis" and "Lestat" from Interview with the Vampire. My Limwha Mano will become Lestat, and I have a Brad Pitt minimee head for Louis. I don't really have any photos to share yet, as neither one has a face-up or clothing! I'm working on it, though!

EDIT: Looks like this thread got merged while I was typing my reply :doh

    26. haha, yeah the thread got merged. XD I hate the search feature on DoA, I searched before making this thread to see if someone had posted something simliar and got nada. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? Idk.

I agree on DOllshe for Dream...but Destruction would DEFINITELY have to be an iplehouse guy. Beefcake <3.

I thought about a Unoa for Delerium! In fact in a perfect world I'd probably go for a Unoa Lusis for her. I just hate that they're so hard to come by. =/ The bodies might be a bit too "mature" too, Del is pretty boyish in terms of figure.

Aside from Despair, I think Death is going to be the hardest. She's my favorite character (I've even cosplayed her XD) so I'd want to get her just right. She needs a little hint of a smile, and maybe a slightly mischievous look. I like Souldoll Queena http://souldoll.com/shop/step1.php?number=1685, her little hint of a smile is darling.

I think Despair will have to be heavily modded...lots of epoxy sculpt? XD I have a very talented friend who has offered to help with that project....she likes making grotesque things so it's right up her alley !Haha.

    27. Unoas aren't too hard to come by - I see them on Marketplace all the time somewhere in the $600-$800 range. You could even just try to find a Lusis faceplate - there's someone out there *scratching my head to remember who* that makes headbacks for them. Then, you could put it on a different, less mature body. I've seen Unoa heads on Fairyland bodies before - the resin match seemed pretty good to me.

O.K. - Here me out on this one:
What about Iplehouse Carina? Looking at her on the Iplehouse site, you really need to look past the face-ups (especially faceup A), but I think her eyes are fairly "death-shaped", and she also has just a little hint of a smile. I know she's an EID - aka HUGE - but I've seen some EID lady heads put on SID bodies, and they look great.

This is definitely going to be the hardest one to do - but it sounds like your friend might be able to do it! I know that someone recently came out with a "curvy/vaguely overweight" SD woman body, but it would still need a bunch of epoxy added on to look right.

    28. Regarding Carina, you can look at her blank head sculpt here for a look: http://www.iplehouse.net/shop/step1.php?number=2132. An SID body would look pretty nice for Death, but then again, I think she's a pretty normal sorta girl who would fit many kinds of bodies. ^_^;;;

    29. For Delerium, if you wanted a 50cm range doll, would the Zaoll's work? They're the only ones in that range I can think of right now.

And she isn't really fat, but the Alex doll at Dollmore is definitely a little thicker than other MSD dolls and I think she's really cute in that chubby way.
      http://dollmore.net/shop/step1.php?number=8743
I know, probably WAY off from what you are looking for, but those were the only suggestions I could think of. Good luck on your search!

I love Neil Gaiman, I am going to have to read this series!

    30. Here goes my doll based on Dream ^^ his name is Morpheus and he is an IOS Blood.

    31. @BoneBagz - that is a gorgeous Delirium!!!
Chibi Kitsune - OMG Neil and Amanda!!
      BlackPaperBag - a most beautiful Death <3

    32. Is that a spider on his face? It's adorable. ...

    33. Yup, it's a crab spider which decided his face would be a good place to hide when I was doing a photo shoot outdoors. As a little girl, I would run away screaming from spiders. As an adult, we've negotiated something of a truce: as long as they're not on me, I'm perfectly happy to have one or two in the corners of my apartment, eating bugs that get in. However, it was still creepy for me to see my doll with a spider on his face. :)

    34. I made my Minifee Eliya a Delirium costume for a halloween challenge at a Swedish bjd forum.

    35. @SteamWitch he's amazing! his faceup is so cool, very reminiscent of the graphic novels! it suits the sculpt super well. also his eyes are incredible. what a great representation of the character! :D

    36. Thank you. Those are black glass marbles for his eyes.
