Modification Resin head on Dollfie Dream 2 body? (includes video tutorial!)

Sep 20, 2004

    1. Well, my DD, which I'm going to use as Wren's body, is finally here. However, I now have a problem...I can't get the head plate off the head, so I can't get the head off to put my Kira13 head on. I'm afraid of damaging the head of the DD...does anyone know how to remove a DD head plate?

She's...ah...squishier than I expected. O.o Cool, though. ... ... She balances to stand really easily...but she doesn't sit very well because of that super-arched back, does she?

Also, as a side question...has anyone ever tried to wire a DD body's arms/upper legs? Just so the shoulders and hips will hold positions, I mean?

      Thanks!

      - Kiya

    2. Hello!

I open the DD head inserting a butter knife between the cap and the head and squeezing it under it cames out. This before cutting the cap. Now I cut it to can put in and out more easy.

I cut the cap leaving a tiny foots in, to hold it to the head:

I cut the base of the head to enter the S hook without taking it away and I do a pair of notchs in the sides of the hole to hold the S hook and maintain the head in her site.

I wired her legs and arms also, but only taking out the hand and the foot and taking out the knot and doing it upper to get more tension. It works pretty good ^^

    3. Squeeze her head hard at the sides and then just pull the head cap off . Yup, just squeeze. You will not damage her, I promise. You need to use a little force on these dolls, so don't work about breaking her.

I wired my DDs legs but now she doesn't bend her legs at the knees, or the hips for that matter, as well as she used to. But at least I don't have the problem of her knees falling out of her sockets. I also strung her tighter, so her arms hold poses a lot better now. It was a lot of work, though.

      Hope that helps!

    4. does anyone try to make sd head on DD body? does it look good? any pic???? please .....
      thank you thank you...

    5. I have a DD body with an SD13 Kira head. It's the same size as an SD head. You can see pictures on my site (WWW link below). The skin color doesn't quite match, but blushing the head (something I REALLY need to do) should fix that. And I know that Dark Elf Soo heads match the skin tone of DD almost perfectly.

    6. hi ^^

so i have a DD1 body, and today i got a luts optional head..now before this head, i had a volks head on the body just to keep it from being headless, and i notice that it would just flop around, and not pose or stay in place and even fall all the way back, exposing the shook and elastic...and im having the same problem with this head.
so i was wondering if anyone who owns a DD with resin head could help me out and let me know how to keep the head firmly on the body?

      thanks!

    7. I'd guess that your elastic isn't tight enough to hold the head in place firmly.

    8. The DD2 body doesn't have anything resembling an S hook, it just has this weird thing that sticks up from the top of it.

I know some of you have put resin heads on DD bodies, so how did you make it work and stay on?

      Thanks in advance.

    9. Amy posted her method HERE

Though I see you've gotten a nice solution yourself Gayle! :)
(linking for anyone else who wanders in here)

    10. Without modding the body? I'm curious because if it is possible, I'd like to get my Juri a body. I have modified a dd2 body with elastic, but since I didn't have a head for her, I sold it. But do you have to modify one?

I was thinking it might be possible to keep the head on with putty, but I don't know if that works. Thanks for the help.

    11. There is a fairly decent amount of members out there that have put resin heads onto DD bodies (and likely Obitsu as well, I think.) I don't think putty would be strong enough to keep the head on, especially because it would work loose everytime you'd want to change it's position. With the old version DD body, putting a head on was esier because it was strung about the same as most resin dolls. I can't say I know how you would need to mod the DD2 to allow for this, unfortunately, but I am pretty sure it would require some sort of mod.

Hopefully someone who's done it before will speak up with a better answer. =3

    12. Eveska posted somewhere about putting a Lishe head on an Obitsu body. At least on an Obitsu (never seen a DD in person) there's a T-shaped thing that's meant to hold the head on. For the Lishe head (or for an older Haruka head actually) you need like a plastic washer, so it goes: T-thing goes through the washer, through the resin head, and into the neck post assembly of the Obitsu body.

I just have no idea how the head cap would stay on, since isn't that how CP headcaps stay on?

    13. i put my juri head on a dd2 body - i looped an elastic band(i used a simple black hair band i got at a drugstore) around the post in her arm(shoulder joint) and pulled it up through the neck and hooked it through the loop on the headcap (i managed this with a piece of pipecleaner which i then ran though down her neck and around her other arm post/shoulder joint to secure it)

it works really well, was super easy/fast/cheap and you can't even tell ^^

    14. Hi guys! I recently had a rather clever idea and thought I'd share with you how to attach a CP/Luts head to a DD body. Its really quite easy! Take a look at the picture below, its rather self explanitory.. The strange felsh-colored stuff where the eyes should be is the Sculpey I use to keep her eyes in place. ^_^

Step 1: Place the head on the body stalk.

Step 2: Thread a Luts Neck Peice over the DD stalk, so that the resin neck peice rests against the resin head base.

Step 3: Take a small binder clip and squeese it onto the stalk, flush against the neck peice.

Step 4: Enjoy your new dolly!

    15. I tried the washer method and that didn't work nearly as well as this method. This method works like a charm:

If you pull that threaded stem up out of the neck, you will notice there is a metal spring it is attached to. You can attach two loops of elastic to this, one going in one direction and one going in the other direction, then push the spring back into the body. The elastic loops will stick out of the neck along the sides of that stem. You can attach another piece of elastic to those loops or an 'S' hook and attach your head via the head cap just like you would to a resin body! The head is on secure and rotates freely, just like it would on a resin body!

I have shared this method with all my local friends who own a DD2 body and they swear by it, too! Throw away those bottle caps and other washers and do it this way. You'll be glad you did!

      ~Sealpup

    16. I can vouch for Sealpup's method! It works like a dream and gives the head just as much stability and freedom of movement as it would have on a regular resin body.

    17. People, help! I didn't understand how it goes... >>_<<

      I don't understand neck's mechanism O_O :...(

    18. Isn't the head just "screw-able" like the rest of the pieces ?

    19. I made a video tutorial for the "rubber-band" method of attaching a resin head to a Volks Dollfie Dream II body. :)

It's on YouTube here -- it's less than six minutes long and, uh, hopefully informative. :sweat There's a skip in it near the end, but I've been told it's not bad.

      Hope it helps! :aheartbea

    20. Very nice video! Makes perfect sense. Love your humor too :sweat. Probably would work on a vinyl Gretel head as well, which I now attach on my DD2 body using a small binder clip.

    21. I used your method and thanks it worked out well! I put my Luts Vampire girl head on my DD2 Body. It matches pretty well. I also put some old 15MM brown sleep eye's in my girl and they look pretty cool.

    22. It does sound like your elastic isn't tight enough.

I followed the tutorial I found on You Tube. I ended up using elastic from both shoulder joints up through the neck hole instead of just stringing it on one side. I haven't had any trouble with her head falling at all. *knock on wood*

    23. It might not be just the elastic...........the DD body has a whole different neck size than SD13 dolls, so don't despair if tightening doesn't do the full job. You might need to pad out the doll head neck area with something to get it to stay nicely.

    24. I'm wondering which optional head you have. I have a DES head on my DD1, and it's fine, necksize and all (if it's floppy, the elastic will need to be tightened.) If you have a head that's for the 2nd type of luts neck option, it's going to have a huge neck hole and you'll need to pad out the neckpiece for it to fit correctly.

    25. My head is a K-Doll SP Kill_U so it's meant to be on a CP or SD13 boy body. If anything the head is a little too large for the DD neck. I still haven't had to pad it though. I suppose a KIPS washer could be used if needs be, it would also keep the resin head from grating on the vinyl neck. hmmmmm

    26. I'm resurrecting this old thread to ask further newb questions. I understand this very useful video but it stops too early for me. I have a Juri '06 head without any hooks in the headcap, so what do I do with the loop of elastic and the S hook once I get it threaded through the DD2 neck?

    27. The Juri 06 is a new-type head, which is designed to use the locking mechanism on the CP bodies instead of an S hook...you will need to use an S-hook, but you can use a neck piece to rest it on. :) It's basically the same for putting a new-type head on an old-type body; there's a thread with more detail here. :aangel:

      I hope that helped! :aheartbea

    28. How hard is it to attach a resin head to a Dollfie Dream basic body? o_o

I'm thinking of buying a head soon (a sweet dream nono~) and since I love so many of the outfits that come out for DDs I thought this would be a great chance to get a "dollfie dream basic body II" so I can buy the cute outfits that are made for them.

But I'm wondering how hard it is to attach them and if I need any speical tools? And is it even possible? D: Did I maybe dream up the topics where I'd seen CP heads attached to DD bodies?

    29. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knew whether the dollfie dream body from Volks is compatiple or fits with any other head besides the dollfie dream head. Could you combine a sd head with a dollfie dream body? Thanks!

    30. Questions like this one belong in the "Customizing" subforum, so I'm going to move it there for you. :)

    31. it certainly does, I couldn't tell you how but lots pf people put resin heads on them- I *think* you can buy a converter from volks?

    32. There is not a converter piece to make it work but there is a tutorial around here someplace. ;)

    33. Thanks very much for your tutorial! Did you use a neck donut for your resin head or just attach with the s hook?

      EDIT:

My method of attaching a resin head to a DDII body uses the piece of elastic looped around a CP doll's hook part in their headcap. You use a piece of wire to carefully pull the loop through the DDII neck-hole and use the arm-post to secure the elastic in place. Therefore you don't need an S hook! (I had to do it this way because I don't have an S hook hanging around! If the head isn't secure enough I'll try the S hook method, but at the moment the resin head is perfectly steady, just a terrible match!
